In a bid to strengthen data protection awareness and compliance, the Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR), in collaboration with the National Privacy Commission (NPC), launched a three-batch seminar series titled “Overview Seminar on Republic Act 10173: Data Privacy Act of 2012.”

Leading the discussions was Atty. Mary Kate Clariz, an esteemed resource speaker from the NPC, who provided key insights into the legal foundations, compliance requirements, and practical applications of the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

The seminar primarily targeted the LTO-NCR Chiefs of Offices and their respective Case Resolvers—employees responsible for managing the agency’s social media accounts and official email communications with the public and other government agencies.

Representatives from the LTO-NCR Regional Digital Media Public Assistance Office (RDMPAO), the Assistant Chiefs of Offices, and selected staff from the
Administrative, Operations, and Financial Management Divisions also attended.

LTO-NCR Regional Director Roque Verzosa III underscored the importance of the initiative, stating, “This seminar is to guide our employees about the Data Privacy Act. As public servants, it is our duty to protect the personal information of the people we serve, especially in the digital age where data is easily accessible.”

The event marked a significant step in LTO-NCR’s continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible digital communication. It also aligned with the broader government initiative to ensure that all public offices comply with national data privacy standards and foster greater public trust.

With the ongoing digital transformation of public services, LTO-NCR
plans to hold more capacity-building activities aimed at empowering its workforce to manage sensitive data with utmost care and professionalism.

The seminar series was carried out under the directive of LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon.
